About
Welcome to the World Cup Willy website for the 2010 Homeless World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. Wondering what it’s all about? Read on …
I’m Wil, dedicated football fan, and one of just 30 volunteers worldwide assisting at the Homeless World Cup in September. We’ll be helping to organise teams, equipment, blogs, photography, media and more. The event has long-lasting effects with more than 70% of participants creating new lives for themselves after the event. The tournament gives the players a platform to work towards new jobs, health, homes, family, education and employment. Some players are even lucky enough to move into playing or coaching at pro or semi-pro level.
I’m really excited about helping this group of more than 500 people towards their new life and even more so because it’s being done through football. It’s going to be a fantastic experience for so many people, including me and I am grateful for all your support.
I’m going to be working hard over the next 5 months to raise lots of money for this event. I’ll be doing this in lots of different ways … and I always welcome suggestions from others. Drop me a line if you have an idea for me.
If you want to contact me, my email address is willy@worldcupwilly.net. I’m happy to hear from anyone … media, sponsors, football clubs, charities and more
